In small spaces, the goal isn’t to fill walls. It’s to make the room feel bigger.
Three rules for small-space art:
1. Choose light, airy scenes
Seascapes, open skies, misty landscapes, pale florals—these create “breathing room” visually.
2. Go smaller than you think
50×70cm (20×28″) or 60×60cm (24×24″) is plenty. A massive 120×80cm piece will shrink the room.
3. Vertical over horizontal
Vertical art draws the eye upward, making ceilings feel taller—especially under 2.6m (8.5ft).
4. One focal piece only
Don’t gallery-wall a small room. One beautiful oil painting as the centerpiece. Leave the rest bare.
Remember: Small spaces need a focal point, not a fill job.
